Day 10: Wednesday, August 23, 2006
We had to be at the airport by about 3pm, so we only had a short day. We started off with another horse trek. I think Liz wanted to go riding without falling off!

Most of the people riding at this farm this day put on that bright orange rain gear. I was confident enough that it wasn't going to rain in the next few hours, plus I had a very good raincoat of my own in case.

The whole peninsula of Reykjanes is geothermally active. Here's a geothermal plant from very far away, generating power...

and pumping the hot water to Reykjavík.

Is your seatbelt buckled?

The last destination of our trip was a very brief swim at the Blue Lagoon, ten minutes from Keflavík airport. This powerplant draws up the naturally heated water, uses the steam to turn turbines and make power...

and dumps some of the cooled (but still plenty hot) water into a lagoon.

Because of the minerals in the water, it has become a spa.

We had one of the better lunches of our trip at the airport cafeteria, believe it or not.

Some nice art at the airport:
